My teaching philosophy was crafted during my time at Pin@y Educational Partnerships, and shaped by my experiences as a Filipinx immigrant raised in the SF Bay Area.
hand in hand, healing from the
hurts that haunt us
I intend to build trauma-informed classrooms that center collective care and healing. Liberatory education requires students and teachers to view one another as whole people — people who have experienced harm and even trauma at the hands of oppressive systems.
In practice, this means naming, processing, and responding to the emotions we feel in the classroom. It also means resisting oppressive teaching practices, such as grading and discipline, which are rooted in white supremacist and capitalist ideologies.
